The Black Prince area provides some excellent tree skiing – perhaps the best in the Kananaskis area – and is great on a low visibility powder day. It is often busy after a snowfall so it’s best to get an early start! Although it’s mainly a treed area, there are more open slopes here and there have been avalanche incidents in this area.
Notables: Kananaskis, glades, low angle, steeper options
Park at the Black Prince trail head and begin heading along the Black Prince trail. You’ll cross the creek and follow an old logging road for approximately 900m. Depart from the road and descend a little ways through the trees, heading WNW until you come to a drainage. Follow the drainage for about 500m, then veer slightly left and begin climbing the shoulder. You’ll ascend through the well spaced trees you’ll eventually enjoy skiing past on the way down.
